Welcome to Lotty's Cat Care

I'm Lotty. I’ve always loved cats growing up even though I didn’t have one in my life until I was 14. In 2020, I started working in a pet store and in 2023 I decided I wanted more cats in my life and wanted to make it my career. So in January 2024, I gave up my job to start training with Absolutely Animals in London. It was a mix of days in the salon in London and coursework completed online. I set up my business Lotty’s Cat Care offering cat grooming and cat sitting in August 2024. I have now completed my iPet Level 3 Diploma and my business is slowly growing. Not a lot of people believe that cats need help grooming like dogs do but through my training I have seen many different breeds and ages of cat that all benefited from the grooming service. This ranged from seasonal moulting to long and thick coats and elderly cats that couldn’t groom themselves very much and needed help. I take time with my cat customers and give them the care and attention they need to address any problem areas and leave knowing I have a happy cat and owner. My services range from trimming nails to a full groom through and even wet baths. I also offer cat sitting and am happy to even combine the groom during the time spent sitting the cat.

Cat Grooming Services

What does cat grooming entail?
I have a list of treatments available but cat grooming is quite a new concept for people who have only heard of dog grooming or believe cats can take care of themselves. Below is an explanation of each treatment.

Nail trimming - cats that have access to scratching posts or boards are pretty good at keeping their nails in check but as a groomer I do need to trim the tips off just to take off that edge if they decide to try and scratch me. It is also a good opportunity to check on the condition of the nails and the pads as cats can be very good at hiding any overgrown or damaged nails.

Eye cleaning - this is just using a damp cotton pad to get rid of any debris or crustiness around the eye. Flat-faced breeds often need this help as there can be a build up in their creases.

Ear cleaning - this is using a cotton pad with some ear cleaner on it to remove any wax and dirt from the ear. Most cats I've trained with really lean into this and enjoy it once they've got over the cold sensation of the cleaner.

Groom through - this is me going through your cats coat with the combs and brushes at my disposal (not applicable to curly coated and hairless cats). I will be getting rid of any knots, undercoat that brushes and cats can't reach and excess fur. This will prevent hairballs and matting. I like to finish with a dry shampoo (if the cat hasn't had a bath), finishing spray and cologne but this depends on the cat and owners preferences.

Wet bath - I'll start by saying not every cat needs or gets a wet bath. If a cat is too stressed then it won't be bathed, even if the owner wants it. It's more like a shower than a bath with shampoo and conditioner that suits the cat's skin and coat. It cleans and softens the coat and dislodges any loose hair that can then be disposed of if caught in the sink or groomed out when dry. I will always check that a cat is happy with the hand dryer before i get them wet.

Hygiene trim - some cats have long hair around their hygiene area and things get stuck. A hygiene trim just trims around that area to clean it up and prevent that from happening.

Panel trim and matt removal - this is using a trimmer to get rid of those matts. The panel is their belly area which can be quite susceptible to matting.

Lion or Teddy cut - if a cat is heavily matted, it can be better to style it into a lion cut rather than just have trimmed sections in various places. Some owners like or require this style too which can be accommodated. A teddy cut is a longer shave for customers that don't want their cats fur to be so short.

Kitten groom - this entails the first four treatments in this list but they don't take as long as its a kitten. I offer it as it helps kittens get used to the grooming process. The more familiar a cat is with being groomed, hopefully, the less stressed it will be when it needs it.
